Using a frame loom, we will construct a rug approximately two foot by 3 foot. Twining is a straightforward, beginner friendly technique. By using strips of fabric from old jeans we will make an indestructible, long lasting rug in a re-cycle, re-use fashion. Students are encouraged to bring jean strips from home (approx 1”-1 ¼” wide) although the instructor will also be providing materials. This class will meet in two sessions. In the first, we will warp and start the rug, then students will continue to work at home. In the second, we will finish and remove the rugs from the loom. Youth age 8-18 can enroll if accompanied by an enrolled adult.
Tools/materials to bring to class: Please bring scissors to class. We will also have scissors available if you need to borrow some. Optional: strips of jeans approximately 1”-1 ¼” wide.

Instructor Bio: Josie has been dabbling in a variety of weaving techniques over the years, from floor looms to card weaving. The frame loom was an early experience, and a thrilling one! This method is approachable, portable, technologically simple, and environmentally friendly. One of the great joys of learning these techniques is passing that joy on to others, and this is a great project to share the joy of weaving.
